Yoga Wonders

beach_yoga_aw1During the last few weeks I let my yoga routine slip away.  I know better.  Yoga doesn’t have to take more than 15 minutes and I feel so much better when I do it on a regular basis.

Anyway last night I finally told myself I needed to do some yoga.  My body felt all tense and tight.  Almost like it was starting to shrink.

So I did a 40 minute routine, a little longer than usual for me.  I felt so good when I was done.  I was relaxed and all the stiffness in my body was gone.  Yoga never fails to amaze to me.

Why do you exercise?

I read an interesting article this afternoon about women and exercise.  Basicaly what it said is that women in their forties or older that exercise in order to lose weight or for better health usually don’t stick with it.  But women that exercise for relaxation usually continue with the exercise program.

I just really thought that was interesting.  It’s also true for me.  I do yoga to relax, the bonus just happens to be that I’m exercising.

Take time for yourself

beach_yoga_awI know a lot of people that think they have to make the holiday’s Norman Rockwell picture perfect.  What I don’t understand is why.  Holiday’s are supposed to be about family and friends, not the china, silverware and the perfect center piece.

I have a few simple rules this time of year and the first one is to take plenty of time for myself.  I make sure I have good books to read and great tea to drink.  Nothing makes me feel better than thirty minutes on the couch with a good cup of tea and a book.

I also try to laugh a lot.  After all its all about having a good time.  No one is going to remember the table setting a year from now, but they will remember the laughs.

After this weekend if I have to shop, even for groceries, I won’t go unless I have plenty of time.  I figured out a long time ago not to go to the store if I’m in a hurry.  That way if it’s busy (and it will be) it’s no big deal because I don’t have anything else to do.

I make a list of what needs to be done, but I don’t worry about most of it.  That way if 9 show up for dinner instead of 7 it’s no big deal.  If my daughter is running (and she will be) its no big deal.  If the floor doesn’t get swept its no big deal.

You get the idea, just relax and enjoy yourself and everyone else and it will be a great holiday season.

Time to relax

Relaxing is a funny thing.   We all say we want to relax more, but then we say we don’t know how to relax.

I don’t think its so much we don’t know how to relax, I think we don’t allow ourselves the time to relax.  No one can’t relax in five minutes in front of the TV.  We can’t do it while sitting at a red light.

We need to make time each day to do something we really enjoy.  Read a book, work in the yard, paint a picture.  It doesn’t matter what we do to relax.  It only matters that we are doing something that makes us release the stress of the day and allows our body and mind to relax.
